LIPOSCULPTURE
GUIDELINES BEFORE TREATMENT:
This procedure is mostly done under local anesthesia. Make sure not to eat or drink 6 hours before te surgery.
Remove nail polish from at least one fingernail and toenail.
Do not wear any jewellery.
Do not take Vitamin E (including multi vitamin supplements) 5 days prior the surgery.
5 days prior to surgery you can start taking ARNICA 5CH, 3 pills 3 times a day. You can continue taking these untill 5 days after the surgery.
The morning of your procedure, shower and wash your surgical areas with desinfectant soap (iso-Betadine, Hibiscrub). After your shower do not wear any makeup, moisturizers, oils, creams, or lotions, or deodorant.
It is best to shave the aerea that will be treated the evening before the surgery, and to take a shower or bath with an antiseptic soap.
It is recommended to stop smoking 4 weeks before the surgery.
Moderate alcohol consumption 2 weeks before the surgery, and stop alcohol consumption 1 day before the surgery.
Wear comfortable clothing on the day of surgery, ideally loose-fitting clothes that open in the front and comfortable flat shoes that slip on.
Please observe the following to try and limit bruising to a minimum:
When you take blood thinning medication or anti-inflammatory medication:
Marcoumar or Sintrom: ask your GP for advice on when and how to temporarily interrupt the taking of this medication.
Stop taking Aspirin or painkillers containing Aspirin (Excedryn, Perdolan compositum, Afebryl,...) 1 week prior to the surgery.
Taking ibuprofen or any other similar anti inflammatory medication (Voltaren, Apranax, Feldene, Celebrex, Biofenac, Mobic, Tilcotil, ...) needs to be stopped 1 week prior to the surgery.
A painkiller that is allowed during this period, is paracetamol, with or without codeine. (Dafalgan, Dafalgan Codein, Panadol)
Should bruising occur in spite these precautions, it is best to traet it with Hirudoid ointment.
GUIDELINES AFTER TREATMENT:
The following are to be expected: swelling, bruising and aching muscles. Wearing an elastic garment will help to control the swelling. You will need to wear this garment for 6 to 8 weeks, day and night.
On day 5 following the surgery, lymph draining treatment is started, 2 or 3 times a week. Contact your physiotherapist for this.
The stiches are dissolvable and will disappear within 6 weeks.
After 48 hours you can take a shower. After this period you may take off the garment for a quick daily shower. After 1 month you may take a bath.
It is important to take enough rest after the procedure.
Sports: Sports that do not cause any shocks (like walking) can be practised after 1 week. Up to 6 weeks after surgery it is best not to practise more active types of sport (e.g. horse riding or jogging) or sports that involve a lot of arm movement (e.g. swimming).
Up to 8 weeks after the surgery, it is not recommended to visit a saunau or a wellness.
Exposing bruises to sunlight can result in permanent discolouring of the skin.
It is important to drink a lot of water the first few days after surgery.
Someone should accompany you after the surgery.
