FACE & NECK LIFT
Guidelines before treatment:
This procedure is performed under local anaesthesia. Do not eat, drink or smoke at least 4 hours before surgery.
Do not wear lenses.
Do not wear any jewellery.
Do not take any blood thinning (Marcoumar, Sintrom) or anti-inflammatory medication like aspirin or ibuprofen for 10 days before surgery.
To reduce the risk of bruising you can start taking 3 tablets of ARNICA 5 CH 8-hourly for 2 days before surgery. It is best to continue taking them for 7 days after surgery.
The morning of your procedure, shower and wash your hair with desinfectant soap (iso-Betadine, Hibiscrub, Dettol). After your shower do not wear any makeup, moisturizers, oils, creams, or lotions or deodorant.
As smoking has a negative effect on the healing process you must refrain from smoking at least 4 weeks before surgery until 2 weeks after surgery.
Moderate alcohol consumption 2 weeks before the surgery, and stop alcohol consumption 1 day before the surgery.
Wear comfortable clothing on the day of surgery, ideally loose-fitting clothes that open in the front and comfortable flat shoes that slip on.
Guidelines after treatment:
At first there can be some swelling. This will disappear spontaneously after a few days.
Bruising will be visible for about two weeks. You are advised not to lie down the first 24 hours following surgery. It is also best to sleep in a half sitting position. This will help to limit swelling and bruising to a minimum.
You can apply ice to reduce swelling and pain during 2 to 3 days.
You are allowed to wash your hair after 5 days, taking care to protect the wounds from too much shampoo.
The stitches will be removed after approximately 7 and after 14 days. As soon as the stitches have been removed you may start wearing make-up again.
The following pain killers can be taken the first few days: paracetamol 1g tablet 8-hourly, ibuprofen 400mg tablet 8-hourly and if necessary tramadol 50mg tablet 8-hourly.
Three weeks after surgery the scars can be massaged twice daily for about 5 minutes. This is best done with a hydrating cream or a special scar cream.
Protect scars well from the sun for 1 year.
It is important to take enough rest after the procedure.
Sports: Sports that do not cause any shocks (like walking) can be practised after 1 week. Up to 6 weeks after surgery it is best not to practise more active types of sport (e.g. horse riding or jogging).
Up to 8 weeks after the surgery, it is not recommended to visit a sauna or a wellness.
Make sure there is someone to drive you home after your surgery.
