What is Hymenoplasty?
Hymenoplasty (Hymen Repair or Hymen Reconstruction) is performed to repair and reconstruct the thin ring-like virginal skin membrane partially covering the opening of the vagina. The hymen is usually disrupted during the first sexual intercourse; however tears may occur with strenuous physical activity, or by inserting a tampon. Most requests for hymen repair are from women that need an unbroken hymen for ethnic, cultural or religious reasons. We understand the sensitivity of this procedure and respect our patients’ need for confidentiality. At other times, the hymenoplasty is required to restore a woman’s maidenhood for psychological or social reasons. That’s why, we don’t classify it as an isolated procedure, but standard gynaecological and surgical procedures today.
