Buttock implants have become quite a popular procedure. Many women, and even some men, are looking to add more to their backside. The implants are comprised of a silicone shell and filled with a firm, flexible material, like silicone. They are placed through a small intergluteal crease incision. Buttock implants are placed into the muscle (intramuscular). The intramuscular location is better long-term and has less risk of implant-related complications but the recovery is significant and the size of implant that can be placed is more limited (450cc or less).
Buttocks can also be augmented through fat grafting. This involves removal of fat from other areas of the body and transferred into the buttock region. Liposuction is usually performed to remove fat from the other areas. Liposuction can also be performed in conjunction with buttock augmentation, in order to further enhance the buttocks new contour.
